The nearby micro-neighborhood of Barracks Row is a must experience in DC , where vintage storefronts hold oyster houses, pubby bars and foodie-focused restaurants By day, the neighborhood is buzzing with everyone from senators and Supreme Court justices to law clerks and Capitol Hill staffers as they go about the business of making and interpreting the laws. By night, the architecturally iconic neighborhood has made a name for itself as a focal point for culinary genius, with a number of nationally famous restaurants calling it home. On Capitol Hill, foodies will find one of DC’s most celebrated chefs, along with a stretch of must-try restaurants along Barracks Row.
Capitol Hill is one of the city’s most popular places to live, with 19th-century row houses and a market plus a vibrant nightlife and dining scene. Politicos, young staffers and tourists alike head to the neighborhood both for its government buildings like the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court and the surrounding historic, walkable, restaurant-filled blocks.
Tour the U.S. Capitol via its impressive visitors center, where guides lead small groups under the intricately painted, 180-plus-foot dome and past the dimly lit Old Supreme Court Chamber. You’ll need a reservation for the tour or to visit Congress or the Senate (when they are in session); for the latter, just contact your senator or house representative. Nearby, the Library of Congress' impressive 1897 Thomas Jefferson building is open for tours that reveal its Italian-Renaissance style architecture and gilt murals, plus the stunning, circular main reading room with its 160-foot-high ceiling. Other attractions include the Folger Shakespeare Library (the world’s largest collection of the author's timeless works), and the glassed-in U.S. Botanic Garden at the base of Capitol Hill, which holds palms, ferns and orchids and provides a peaceful escape.
Nineteenth and early 20th-century row houses (think turrets, stained glass and ironwork) lead to throwback commercial zones. Eastern Market, an 1873 brick building houses grocers, bakers and pasta makers inside every day except Monday, as well as a lively weekend bazaar with produce, crafts and antiques. The nearby micro-neighborhood of Barracks Row centers on 8th Street SE, where vintage storefronts hold oyster houses, pubby bars and foodie-focused restaurants. Closer to the Capitol, Massachusetts Avenue NE has multiple restaurants and longtime watering holes.
Enjoy a home with a walk score of 100 - including 6 transit stops within 1.2 miles. Transit options include Capitol South and Eastern Market. Pedestrians can reach Capitol South with a 2 minutes walk.
It is also a bike rider’s paradise with a rating of 98/100, a Capital Bike Share Rental Station one block away and numerous other vendors that provide curbside bicycle and electric scooter rentals with phone app GPS locators. DC has over 28 miles of public roadway bike lanes and the neighborhood is connected to a system of more than 200 miles of paved bike and jogger paths.
DC has an excellent urban public transportation system that is rated 91/100 and includes buses, subway and street trolley. Access to a major bus line artery is one block away and the nearest subway station is two blocks away from the apartment. In addition, taxi, Uber and Lyft services make it easy to tour the City and conduct business without using your car.

The location was perfect and the Hosts helpful.
Early bag drop off appreciated.Show more Great place to stay for its safe, walkability to all the tourist sites along the National Mall, including Smithsonian museums, Capitol and Library of Congress. One block away from the Capitol South metro station made it a pleasure to take the light rail to and from Reagan DC National Airport. A 12 minute walk to Whole Foods allowed us to prepare all dinners at the Airbnb during our stay. The unit was clean, the AC worked and the bed comfortable. Communication with Sojourn was flawless. A few things to note: the kitchen lacked kitchen towels, pot holders or sharp cooking knives and the only coffee maker was a Keurig. As noted by others, the living room sofa was very uncomfortable. Across the street building construction awakened us every morning at 5am so ear plugs are highly recommended. Overall a great place to play tourist in Washington DC and would stay here again.Show more The apartment was in a terrific location. 2 blocks from the Supreme Court, Capitol and Library of Congress.
Although there was a patio, we did not feel safe using it. Rather than repairing/replacing the decking it was merely painted over and felt very unsafe.
The kitchen was done over beautifully and had a European style washer/dryer in it. However, the W/D blocked the only drawers in the kitchen from opening which made reaching the utensils almost impossible. A very nice, new gas stove/oven was also in the kitchen but it was so close to the wall we didn't use it as you could see previous guests had scorched the wall. An added bonus was Sojourn had a GrubHub free delivery link.
We used Spot Hero to get parking.
The apartment was in a great location, newly renovated. If they'd taken it to the next step and repaired the patio (a big selling point for us) and taken a bit more care in the kitchen remodel it would have been perfect. All in all, however, a good place to stay.Show more
